Places to go. People to call. Things to know.
Gezina is a suburb of Pretoria, in the City of Tshwane, Gauteng. This is a guide to it: the shops, services, schools, transport and practical numbers you actually need, with every changeable fact carrying the date it was last checked and a link to where it came from.
It is a working residential suburb north of the city centre rather than a destination, and most of what happens commercially happens along or just off Steve Biko Road, the arterial that runs through it. Two retail centres anchor the area — Gezina Galleries on Frederika Street and Gezina Lifestyle Centre on Steve Biko Road — and between them sit most of the everyday shops, restaurants and services a household here uses in a normal week.
The suburb is also shaped by what sits next to it. Steve Biko Academic Hospital is close by, and a steady share of the people using shops, parking and places to eat along this stretch are there for the hospital rather than because they live here. It is worth knowing if you are visiting someone: several of the pages on this site treat “near the hospital” as its own question, because for a lot of readers that is exactly what they are asking.

Postal codes for the area are not as simple as one number: the street code and the PO Box code differ, and some businesses publish a third. The Gezina postal code page sets out which to use for what.

Explore Gezina
Start with what you came for. Each of these is a section of the site rather than a single page.
The sections are organised the way people actually arrive at them, which is usually mid-task rather than browsing: needing a number, checking whether somewhere is open, working out what something costs, or deciding whether a person turning up at the door is who they say they are. Each hub opens with the short answer and then gets more specific, so a quick visit does not have to become a long one.
Where a section covers something regulated — an electrician, an attorney, an accountant, a security company — there is a separate guide on checking the registration yourself, using the regulator’s own public register rather than taking anyone’s word for it. Those guides are the ones worth reading before you need them.

Local Businesses and Services
The rule for every business named on this site is the same: it appears only once its own operator publishes the detail, and the page says where that detail came from and when it was read. Not a directory listing, not a review aggregate, not a search summary.
That standard is slower than scraping, and it is the reason the business pages here carry addresses and trading hours you can act on. It has also caught real errors — on more than one occasion a widely-repeated address for a local business turned out to disagree with what the business itself publishes.

Shopping, Food and Things to Do
Gezina’s retail centres sit close together along and just off Steve Biko Road, which means a lot of what you need is within one short trip. The centre pages list the stores trading inside each building, and the store pages carry the individual trading hours, because a shop inside a centre can open later or close earlier than the building around it.
That distinction matters more than it sounds. A centre publishing 08:00 to 18:00 tells you when the doors are unlocked, not when any particular shop inside is serving, and the two regularly differ by hours at either end. Where a store publishes its own hours, those are the ones shown here; where only the building’s hours exist, the page says so rather than quietly borrowing them.
Eating out follows the same pattern. The restaurants that publish their own trading hours differ from one another far more than their menus do — one opens at 07:00 and is shut by 17:00, another does not start until 09:30 but runs to 21:00 on a Friday. On a Sunday afternoon that difference is the entire decision, which is why the comparison leads on hours rather than on food.

Property, Schools and Moving
Moving somewhere is mostly a sequence of practical questions in a particular order, and getting the order wrong is expensive. Schools before an address. Transfer costs before an offer. What the bond actually repays before either.
The property section carries two calculators that work from published statutory tables rather than estimates: one for the monthly bond repayment, and one for transfer duty and Deeds Office fees. Both show their formula and both say plainly what they exclude, because the costs a calculator leaves out are the ones that ruin a budget.

Transport and Everyday Information
The things you look up quickly, usually on a phone, usually in a hurry.
These pages are built for the moment you need them rather than for reading in advance: the answer is at the top, the number is tappable, and nothing is buried under an introduction. The emergency page in particular is deliberately plain, because a page that has to be scrolled and interpreted is no use to someone who is already dealing with something.

Each of those dates appears again on the page it belongs to, next to the fact it applies to. A date on this site means someone opened the source and read it on that day.
How this guide is built, and what it will not do
Sections are published as they are verified rather than all at once, so some are fuller than others. A page that is still being researched says so instead of padding itself out with guesses, and no business is named here on the strength of a directory entry alone.
This site does not rank businesses, does not publish reviews, and does not describe anything as the best in Gezina. It states what each operator publishes about itself, names the source and dates it. If something here is wrong or out of date, the correction route at the foot of every page is the fastest way to fix it, and corrections are checked against the original source rather than simply applied.
