Following a dominant 45–0 win over Italy, where the Springboks excelled in the breakdown after previously struggling in that area, Smith emphasized the importance of continuous improvement and matching the physical intensity of Georgia, known for their resilience and strength. Smith highlighted that Georgian players are especially motivated to impress on the international stage, as performances against the Boks could open doors for contracts overseas. He stated that the Boks must focus on getting better with each game and uphold their responsibilities as reigning world champions[1].
Smith, a versatile loose forward, is expected to make his regular impact off the replacements bench in the fixture against Georgia. He acknowledged the criticism following the team’s substitutions not producing their desired impact in the opening Italy Test but dismissed the idea that opponents have solved the Boks’ renowned “Bomb Squad.” Smith believes the squad is motivated to reassert their standards and counter Georgia’s famed physical style at the breakdown[3].
Alongside his Springbok career, Kwagga Smith is also recognized for his notable achievements, including winning a bronze medal with the South African Sevens team at the 2016 Olympics and being part of the national side that won the 2019 and 2023 Rugby World Cups.
