FedEx has expanded Sunday residential delivery to reach two-thirds of the U.S. population as of March 2025, up from the previous 50%. This move responds to growing demand and competitive pressure, offering more convenient delivery options for consumers. Meanwhile, UPS has introduced new fees related to payments and invoicing—customers paying by check or wire transfer now face a $25 charge, and printed invoices incur a $5 fee. Additionally, UPS now applies a $10 per shipment fee when the commercial invoice isn’t submitted digitally via UPS Paperless® Invoice services.[1]
The U.S. Postal Service began implementing its second phase of service standard refinements on July 1, 2025. These improvements expand the reach of two-, three-, and four-day service standards for First-Class Mail and USPS Ground Advantage. The updated standards will enhance delivery speeds for a broader geographic area, particularly for mail and package volume originating and destined within the same service area.[5]
Amazon is leveraging AI and automation to optimize deliveries, particularly around major events such as Prime Day. Innovations include dynamic route adjustments for missed deliveries, predictive inventory management post-sales surges, and trial deployments of robotics for warehouse operations and possible future doorstep deliveries. Sustainability algorithms are also minimizing delivery-related emissions by optimizing electric van routes and consolidating deliveries.[3]
In food delivery, 2025 has seen the emergence of “super apps” that bundle diverse services—like grocery, restaurant, and pharmacy delivery—in a single interface. These platforms aim to reduce app fatigue and keep users within a unified ecosystem.[2] Voice-activated ordering on smart devices has become a standard, making ordering faster, supporting multitasking, and improving accessibility.[2] Data from DoorDash’s 2025 report further shows that while 52% of consumers are comfortable with AI-recommended food choices, only 15% fully trust AI in kitchens for food preparation. Viral social media trends and the surge in AI-assisted personalization continue to drive consumer habits in food delivery.[6][8]
