Quick Answer

In short

Gezina is an established residential suburb in the Pretoria Moot, inside the City of Tshwane, roughly four kilometres north of the city centre. It is well served for everyday shopping, schools and healthcare, and it has no bus route of its own.

What You Need to Know

Gezina sits in the band of older northern suburbs that Pretoria residents call the Moot, a stretch of flat, gridded streets running between the city centre and the Magaliesberg ridge. Its neighbours are Rietfontein, Villieria, Riviera, Rietondale, Moregloed, Queenswood and Wonderboom South, with Les Marais, Eloffsdal and Mayville to the west.

The streets run into one another without much ceremony, which matters more than it sounds. Street names repeat across these suburbs, so a delivery, a visitor or an ambulance sent to the right street in the wrong suburb is a routine local problem rather than a rare one. Naming the suburb, every time, is the habit worth forming.

Two postal codes, and both are correct

Gezina uses 0084 for street addresses and 0031 for post office boxes, with the box range running from 23001 to 27800. Both come from the Post Office’s own dataset. Using the box code on a street address is the most common version of the mistake, and it delays post quietly rather than bouncing it back.

No police station is named Gezina. Pretoria Moot serves the area and merely carries a Gezina postal address.
Its physical address is in Rietfontein. SAPS publishes no Gezina precinct, so this guide claims none. Source saps.gov.za, checked 2026-08-15.

Getting around

This is where newcomers are most often misled. There is no Tshwane bus route named for Gezina. The routes running through the surrounding Moot are Moregloed 1, Queenswood, Rietfontein 21, Villieria 1 to 3, Waverley 6 and Wonderboom South. A Re Yeng, the city’s bus rapid transit service, runs from 06:00 to 20:25 on weekdays, 06:00 to 23:40 on Saturdays and 06:00 to 20:00 on Sundays.

City buses take a connector card only. Cash and paper tickets are not accepted on any City bus, and search results quoting a cash fare are out of date.

Special-needs passengers are able to embark and disembark all A Re Yeng buses with ease.
A Re Yeng, describing its own service

That is the operator’s description of its own system and has not been independently checked here. If it matters for your circumstances, confirm it directly on (012) 358 4848 before relying on it. What can be stated in our own voice is observable: A Re Yeng trunk stations sit in the centre of the road, so reaching one means crossing traffic. That is a fact about the road layout rather than a claim about the service.

Step-by-Step Guidance

If you are weighing the suburb up rather than already living in it, this is a sensible order to work through.

  • 1

Fix the geography in your head first

Walk or drive the boundary streets before anything else. Gezina runs into Rietfontein and Villieria without a visible break, and the character changes street by street rather than suburb by suburb. The history of Gezina explains why the grid looks the way it does.

  • 2

Test the commute at the hour you would really travel

Four kilometres from the city centre is nothing at 10:00 and a different proposition at 07:30. If you would use public transport, check that a Moot route actually serves your street, since none carries the Gezina name.

  • 3

    Settle schooling before housing

School catchment and the practical morning route constrain where in the suburb makes sense far more than listing photographs do. Work this out before you fall for a specific house.

  • 4

    Check the everyday infrastructure

Where you would shop, which pharmacy is closest, where the nearest clinic is. Explore shopping in Gezina covers the first of those, and each centre page carries its hours with the date they were confirmed.

  • 5

    Then look at property

With the first four settled, property in Gezina becomes a much shorter list. If you are coming from outside Pretoria, moving to Gezina covers the administrative side, including municipal accounts.

Costs, Timing and Common Mistakes

This guide publishes no cost figures, and the reason is worth stating plainly rather than hiding. Three of the numbers a reader would most want are not currently available from a source that can be stood behind.

  • Public parking tariffThe Tshwane parking meter by-law is still in draftNot published

Assuming a Gezina bus route

There is not one. Check which Moot route serves your specific street before you rely on public transport.

Using the box code on a street address

0031 is for post office boxes. Street addresses take 0084.

Trusting a cash bus fare

City buses take a connector card only. Any source quoting cash is out of date.

Naming the wrong suburb in an emergency

Street names repeat across the Moot. Say Gezina by name when you call 107.
