Gezina Local Guide is an independent local information site for Gezina, Pretoria. This policy explains what happens to your information when you visit it. It describes how the site actually behaves, checked against the pages it serves on 2026-08-16.
The short version
There are no visitor accounts, no analytics, no advertising and no tracking pixels on this site. An ordinary visit sets no cookies. We do not build a profile of you and we have nothing to sell about you. The one thing we collect is an email address, and only if you type it into the subscribe form yourself.
What is collected
- Server logs. Our hosting provider records ordinary web server information for every request: your IP address, the page requested, the time, and your browser’s user agent. This is used to keep the site running and to investigate abuse or faults.
- Anything you send us. If you email a correction or a question, we keep that message so we can act on it and check the change later.
There is no contact form, no account system and no comment system open to visitors.
The subscribe list
The footer of every page has a form where you can give us your email address to receive occasional updates about Gezina: new listings, changed trading hours and local notices. This is the only place the site collects personal information on purpose.
- What is stored. Your email address, the date and time you submitted it, and the page you submitted it from. Nothing else. We do not ask for your name and we do not add anything to it.
- What it is used for. Sending you those updates. It is not sold, shared, rented or passed to anyone else.
- Getting off the list. Reply to any message we send, or email us, and the address is deleted. You do not have to give a reason.
- Where it is kept. In this site’s own database on our hosting, not with a third-party mailing company.
To be plain about the current state: addresses are being stored, and no newsletter has been sent yet. If we later move the list to a mailing provider, that provider will be named here before the first message goes out.
Cookies
An ordinary visit sets no cookies. WordPress sets cookies only for a signed-in administrator of this site, which is not something a visitor can trigger.
Third parties
One third-party request happens when you load a page. The typefaces are served by Google Fonts from fonts.googleapis.com, and making that request discloses your IP address to Google. Nothing else on the page calls out to another company: there are no analytics scripts, no advertising, no social media pixels and no embedded third-party frames.
Maps on this site are images generated from OpenStreetMap data and stored here. Viewing a map does not send a request to any map provider. Photographs are stored on this site rather than hotlinked from elsewhere.
WordPress can load emoji images from s.w.org where a page contains emoji characters.
Your rights
Under the Protection of Personal Information Act you may ask what personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct or delete it, and object to how it is used. Given how little this site collects, in most cases the honest answer will be that we hold nothing beyond server logs and any email you chose to send.
If you are not satisfied with how we handle a request, you can complain to the Information Regulator of South Africa.
Changes
If the site starts doing something this policy does not describe, for example adding analytics or a contact form, this page is updated before that goes live.
